Egypt’s Astronomical and Geophysical Research Institute has announced that Eid al-Adha, a major Islamic holiday, is expected to commence on Sunday, June 16th, 2024. This information is based on astronomical calculations conducted by the institute’s Sun Research Laboratory.
The official announcement of the holiday’s date, however, will be made by Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta, the country’s main religious authority.
Eid al-Adha is a time of celebration for Egyptian Muslims. Festivities typically begin with Eid prayers at dawn, followed by the customary sacrifice of an animal, often a sheep, goat, or cow. This tradition commemorates Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to God’s command.
