The Anti-Drug and Addiction Treatment Fund, under the leadership of Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity and Chair of the Fund, released a video report highlighting the organization’s activities from February 1 to 6, 2025. The report detailed the fund’s efforts in combating drug addiction and raising awareness about its dangers.

One of the key highlights of the report was the announcement of the results from the “Drug Protection Program” in newly developed areas, part of a larger initiative to protect residents in alternative housing to informal settlements. Dr. Morsi, alongside Dr. Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo, and Amb. Moshira Khattab, Chair of the National Council for Human Rights, attended the event, which was also graced by Dr. Amr Osman, Director of the Anti-Drug Fund. The program was part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives to implement drug protection strategies in newly established residential areas. During the event, 100 individuals who had successfully completed their rehabilitation from addiction in these developed areas were recognized and awarded for their successful recovery.

As part of the outreach efforts, the fund organized home visits to 45,000 families residing in newly developed neighborhoods, raising awareness about the risks of drug abuse and introducing early detection mechanisms.

In celebration of the 73rd Police Day, the Anti-Drug Fund collaborated with the Ministry of Interior’s General Directorate of Narcotics Control to organize a theatrical performance titled “Sale” at the Salam Theater. The event involved officers and their families, aiming to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use within the community.

The Fund also reported its extensive campaign activities throughout Egypt, including 230 events across various provinces. These initiatives featured the “They Deceived You” awareness campaign in public squares and targeted areas within the “Decent Life” initiative’s rural development program in collaboration with the “Haya Karima” foundation. Additionally, a series of awareness programs aimed at university students were conducted to educate them on the harmful effects of drug abuse. Efforts to raise awareness in alternative housing areas, previously known as informal settlements, also continued with the help of various volunteers.

As part of the Fund’s ongoing efforts, it also increased its outreach through the “Volunteer Houses” across eight Egyptian universities, educating students about the dangers of addiction. The Fund continues to provide confidential and free addiction treatment services via the “16023” hotline, which operates 24/7, helping 2,462 patients in 34 treatment centers across 19 governorates.

Furthermore, the fund is actively implementing early detection programs for drug abuse among state employees, having tested 14,551 civil servants to date. Employees who voluntarily seek treatment before detection campaigns are provided with confidential treatment at no cost, without facing legal consequences. These efforts also extend to bus drivers, with ongoing campaigns to monitor and raise awareness of drug abuse in school transportation workers, ensuring public safety and welfare.

The Anti-Drug Fund’s comprehensive initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to tackling addiction at all levels of society, from schools and workplaces to rural communities, through extensive educational programs, medical support, and proactive intervention measures.
