Egyptian Red Crescent, UN Women Deliver Essential Aid to Women & Children in Gaza

News Agencies

UN Women Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent delivered 7,000 essential aid kits to Gaza as part of a coordinated effort to address the dire needs of women and children in the conflict zone.

Christine Arab, UN Women’s Country Representative in Egypt, stated: Under the UN Flash Appeal for the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), UN Women has partnered with the Egyptian Red Crescent to support women in Gaza.

She added: This assistance is crucial as women and girls face immense challenges due to the conflict, including displacement, lack of basic necessities, and threats to their safety and well-being.

The ongoing conflict has displaced over 1.9 million people in Gaza, with estimates indicating that nearly one million are women and girls. Tragically, women and children account for 70% of all reported fatalities, with two mothers dying every hour. Access to food, water, sanitation, and hygiene is still severely limited, jeopardizing their health and dignity.

This aid delivery is part of UN Women’s six-month multisectoral response plan, which focuses on providing immediate humanitarian assistance and improving on-site coordination. The organization also collaborates with local women-led organizations to provide gender-responsive services and address specific challenges faced by women and girls, such as protection and psychological support.

UN Women reiterates its call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and unimpeded delivery of critical aid to women and girls. The organization urges the international community to prioritize their safety and provide the assistance they require.

The Egyptian Red Crescent Society is leading the humanitarian response in Gaza, with assistance from over 35 countries and UN agencies.

So far, Egypt’s Red Crescent Society has delivered 8,037 trucks to Gaza. These trucks hauled over 75,000 tons of food and water, over 25,000 tons of emergency supplies, and over 18,000 tons of medical supplies.
