Egyptian parliament’s Social Solidarity Committee approves draft law to create EGP 1 bn disability fund

The House Social Solidarity Committee approved a draft law to set up an EGP 1 bn fund to support people with disabilities.

The Differently Abled Fund, established by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi last year, would provide funding for training programs to enable persons with disabilities to access the labor market and operate SMEs, among other types of social and financial assistance.

The bill would obligate the military’s National Service Projects Organization (NSPO) to donate EGP 500 mn, the New Urban Communities Authority EGP 200 mn, the Tahya Misr Fund to kick in EGP 100 mn, the Suez Canal Authority another EGP 100 mn, and the Martyrs Fund EGP a final EGP 100 mn before the end of the current 2023-2024 fiscal year.

The bill will be up for discussion and vote when the House reconvenes next week.
