Egyptian Customs Authority Issues Imports Circular for Tuk-tuks & Motorcycles for Commercial Use

News Agencies

The Egyptian Customs Authority has issued an import circular to enforce the Minister of Trade and Industry’s decision to prohibit the import of three-wheeled commercial vehicles, or “tuk-tuks,” and motorcycles, with the exception of tricycles.

According to several sources, the Ministry of Commerce had previously stated that this decision is part of a more significant push to replace tuk-tuks with safer modes of transportation, along with the president’s desire to shift to vehicles powered by clean energy, mainly natural gas.

The government further plans to make minivans available as an alternative to tuk-tuks.
