Egypt and Switzerland are set to launch a cooperation program from 2025 to 2028. The program will focus on several essential areas such as governance, human rights, green growth, youth skills development, protection issues, and migration.
This was announced by the Ministry of International Cooperation (MoIC) in an official statement.
MoIC minister Rania Al-Mashat met with Patricia Danzi, the Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation on Sunday to discuss the program. During the meeting, it was emphasized that the new program would build upon the existing Egypt-Swiss cooperation program that has been running from 2021 to 2024.
Al-Mashat presented the goals of Egypt’s Country Platform for the Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) Program. The objectives of the NWFE program are to promote comprehensive development in Egypt, address the impacts of climate change through mitigation and adaptation projects, and implement water desalination initiatives. The program also aims to support small farmers in adapting to climate change, improve agricultural productivity and incomes through modern technology and clean energy, and attract investments worth $14.7 billion by utilizing innovative financing tools.
The meeting also discussed mobilizing efforts to assist displaced individuals affected by the regional situation. The Swiss side expressed its support for the Egyptian Red Crescent with a contribution of 4 million Swiss francs.
Furthermore, Danzi commended Egypt’s effective role in providing humanitarian aid to the residents of Gaza. In response to the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, Switzerland has disbursed an additional amount of $102 million.
