Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education , Dr. Ayman Ashour, along with the Minister of Education, Mohamed Abdel Latif, and Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gebran, officially launched the “Egypt GATE ‘Genius'” initiative in New Cairo. The ceremony hosted prominent figures, including Dr. Gina El-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Dr. Hani Ayad, Executive Director of the Innovators and Geniuses Care Fund, and several university presidents, ministry leaders, research centers, and school students.
The initiative aims to identify, nurture, and support Egypt’s most exceptional young minds, providing a platform for brilliant children across the nation to hone their talents and excel. Dr. Ashour emphasized that the Egyptian government is fully committed to advancing human capital, noting the presence of specialized centers within Egyptian universities to support innovative and talented students. He explained that the program seeks to identify exceptional skills nationwide, integrating these young individuals into programs designed to cultivate their potential, in alignment with the Ministry’s broader vision of building future leaders for Egypt’s development.
Dr. Ashour outlined the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship within the framework of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, noting that such efforts are integral to meeting the demands of the labor market and aligning with Egypt’s broader goals for national development. He also highlighted the GEN Z program, a key initiative fostering entrepreneurial thinking among university and institute students, which has garnered substantial backing, including a 100 million Egyptian pound investment.
In addition, the Minister underscored the potential of young innovators, citing the example of Yahya Abdel Nasser, a gifted student who successfully joined Zewail City of Science and Technology, demonstrating the remarkable talent emerging from Egypt’s educational institutions.
Mr. Mohamed Abdel Latif, Minister of Education, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stressing that nurturing talented youth is not only a national duty but also critical to the country’s sustainable development. He acknowledged that talent, when nurtured in an encouraging environment, could fuel innovation, create new job opportunities, and enhance Egypt’s global competitiveness. Minister Abdel Latif also emphasized the importance of collaboration with the private sector and civil society organizations, advocating for partnerships that provide opportunities for young talents to engage in international forums and competitions.
The initiative aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which focuses on the holistic development of human capital, fostering a culture of innovation and creativity at all stages of education. The Ministry of Education has already made strides in this direction, including updates to curricula and the launch of the “New Beginning to Build the Egyptian Person” initiative, which aims to provide an educational framework conducive to creativity and critical thinking.
Minister Abdel Latif highlighted the success of Egypt’s Schools of Excellence in Science and Technology (STEM), noting that students from these institutions recently won first place at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF 2024), a testament to the country’s growing pool of talented individuals ready to excel on the global stage.
The “Egypt GATE ‘Genius'” initiative, which enjoys the full support of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, represents a concerted effort to invest in the country’s future leaders by cultivating a generation of highly skilled, innovative, and entrepreneurial individuals.
