Egypt, Japan Bolster Economic Relations, Celebrating 70 Years Of Partnership

The Egyptian Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation hosted a high-level dialogue to bolster economic relations between Egypt and Japan, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of their diplomatic partnership.

Minister Rania Al-Mashat chaired the meeting, which included government officials, Japanese financial institutions, and representatives from various Egyptian ministries. The Participants explored methods to improve bilateral collaboration in economic growth, infrastructure, renewable energy, and human capital development sectors.

“The coincidence of the current session of the high-level dialogue with the 70th anniversary of relations between the two countries is an opportunity to strengthen the future partnership and move the joint relations to broader horizons,” according to local media.

Al-Mashat stressed the importance of Egypt and Japan’s strategic alliance, highlighting their shared aim for sustainable development. She emphasized recent high-level meetings between the two countries, which have taken their relationship to a strategic level.

The Minister explored Egypt-Japan’s continuing development cooperation portfolio, which includes initiatives in education, health, renewable energy, and infrastructure. She emphasized the necessity of empowering the private sector and expanding funding options for Egyptian businesses.

Moreover, the Minister outlined the importance of empowering the private sector through increased financing mechanisms and the“HAFIZ” platform for financial and technical support. She stressed the need to localize industry, develop human capital, support digital entrepreneurship, and promote scientific research applications.

On the other hand, Japanese Ambassador Oka Hiroshi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the high-level meeting and reiterated Japan’s commitment to developing its partnership with Egypt. He praised the accomplishments made during the past 70 years of partnership. He highlighted his desire for continued technological collaboration and trilateral cooperation with other African and Middle Eastern countries.

Representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) also participated in the meeting. They discussed their respective roles in supporting bilateral cooperation and highlighted their ongoing projects and initiatives in Egypt.
