According to an anonymous government official, hotel occupancy rates in Egypt increased to 80% in 1H 2023 from 65% in the comparable period a year earlier, according to Asharq Business.
Hotels in Hurghada were among the most popular at that time, with over 100% occupancy in April, while Cairo had occupancy rates of 80-85%. The news outlet did not mention data from other parts of the country. Egypt was the most popular destination for European travelers, who made up over 75% of all bookings.
According to figures released earlier this month by the Tourism Ministry, Egypt welcomed a record 7 million tourists during the first half of the year. This year, the government hopes to attract up to 15 million tourists.
