The Egyptian government has designated Sunday, September 15, corresponding to Rabi’ al-Awwal 12, 1446 AH, as an official paid holiday for Al Mawlid Al Nabawi.
Under the authority of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Sunday has been designated as an official paid holiday for employees in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public-sector companies, public-business-sector companies, and private-sector companies to celebrate the Prophet’s birthday.
Mawlid, which commemorates Prophet Mohamed’s birthday, is celebrated in Rabi’ Al-awwal, the third month in the Islamic calendar.
In some Muslim countries, including Egypt, people celebrate the occasion by buying different kinds of sweets and holding public gatherings.
