Egypt Appointments New Governors for Cairo, Alexandria, and Other Major Cities

On Wednesday, Egypt’s State Information Service made an official announcement regarding the appointment of new governors for all 27 governorates in Egypt. These 27 newly appointed governors were sworn into office by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Presidential Palace on Wednesday, July 3rd.

Notably, six of the appointed governors are returning to their respective posts, namely Mohamed El-Zamalot as the Governor of New Valley, Khaled Shuaib as the Governor of Matrouh, Amr Hanafy as the Governor of Red Sea, Ibrahim Abu-Laimon as the Governor of Menoufia, Mohamed Hani as the Governor of Beni Suef, and Ahmed El-Ansary as the Governor of Fayoum.

It is worth mentioning that there have been leadership changes in key governorates such as Cairo and Alexandria. Additionally, a considerable number of the appointed governors have a background in the armed forces.

According to Egyptian Streets Website the role of the governor in Egypt holds significant importance as it directly influences the daily lives of Egyptian citizens. Governors bear the responsibility of formulating strategies to tackle local governorate-level challenges, overseeing local educational initiatives, sanitation, waste management, healthcare facilities, road upkeep, public transportation, and other such essential function

The governors are tasked with overseeing security measures within their respective governorates, developing security strategies, identifying potential investment prospects, and submitting development proposals to the Egyptian Cabinet.
