Ali Abu Sinna, the Chief of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA), announced that the government has initiated measures to promote sustainable cities in Sharm El-Sheikh, alongside the Green Sharm project. The preparations included implementing sustainable infrastructure and service projects, as well as conserving biodiversity in compliance with supportive policies from several ministries.Abu Sinna spoke on behalf of Yasmine Fouad, the Minister of Environment, during the launch of the preliminary workshop for the project to transform Sharm El-Sheikh into a green city. This project is being carried out by the Ministry of Environment in partnership with the South Sinai Governorate and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).The workshop’s objective is to officially kickstart the project and discusses its main issues, general framework, strategy, and implementation plan. All stakeholders are encouraged to collaborate to ensure the project’s success, and Abu Sinna emphasized the need to build on the strategy of transforming Sharm El-Sheikh into a sustainable city.The Ministry of Environment has been implementing a long-term plan to incorporate biodiversity into tourism since 2018, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism.
