The signing ceremony of the operational agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation and the UN World Food Programme (WFP) to begin the implementation of the second phase of the project was witnessed by Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the CBE, and Mr. Alaa Farouk, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation.

This event took place within the framework of the ongoing efforts to launch the second phase of the “Transforming the Livelihoods of Smallholder Farmers” project, which is administered by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).

On Wednesday, Mr. Mostafa El-Sayyad, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Mr. Jean-Pierre de Margerie, the WFP Egypt Representative and Country Director, signed the agreement at the CBE’s premises. Representatives from the CBE were present at the signing event.

According to Eleqtisade News The collaborative effort is in line with the CBE’s Financial Inclusion Strategy (2022–2025), which aims to give all societal sectors economic empowerment. It focuses on empowering women economically, offering financial literacy initiatives, and enhancing the lives of smallholder farmers by making the best use of available land and water resources. This is in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which attempts to improve and elevate Egyptian inhabitants’ standard of living.

“The CBE is keen to support the collaboration among local and international institutions to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through financial inclusion and economically empowering all segments of society,” stressed Mr. Hassan Abdalla, Governor of the CBE. The project is centered on the agricultural sector, which is the most prioritized area of the Egyptian economy.
