Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Rania Al Mashat, met with Canadian Minister of International Development, Ahmed Hussen, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly and Summit of the Future in New York. The meeting underscored the deepening ties between the two nations.
Empowering Women and Youth
Mashat and Hussen discussed expanding bilateral cooperation in empowering women and youth. They emphasized the role of the private sector in driving economic growth and social development. Mashat praised the strong Egypt-Canada relationship and highlighted potential for collaboration in climate adaptation and sustainable development.
Addressing Global Challenges
Mashat also met with Vera Songwe, Chair and Founder of the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility, to discuss supporting African development amidst climate change and geopolitical tensions. They advocated for reforming the global financial structure to increase access to funding for African countries and address pressing challenges.
Investing in Youth Development
Both parties expressed support for the UN Global Initiative “Generation Unlimited” and its Egyptian counterpart, “Shabab Balad.” They emphasized the importance of international support to enhance youth skills, expand training programs, and create job opportunities.
