Eng. Mohamed El-Mufti, Chairman of ICT Misr, met with Eng. Bakar El-Bayoumi, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology for Technological and Applied Research Planning, at the “Quantum Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges” forum. The forum was supported by Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, with participation from the Egypt University of Informatics (EUI).

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the urgent need for Egypt to accelerate the adoption of quantum technologies to stay in step with global advancements. They highlighted the importance of leveraging quantum technology across various sectors and fortifying national cybersecurity, especially against advanced cyber threats that may rely on quantum computing to crack critical data encryption. They stressed that rapid implementation of quantum technologies is essential to safeguard vital national information.

Eng. Bakar El-Bayoumi noted that the Ministry of Communications is diligently working to catch up with quantum technologies, emphasizing that such advancements are critical for Egypt’s economy. He assured that quantum technologies will complement, not conflict with, existing technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and current data center capabilities. Instead, they can all work in parallel to enhance Egypt’s technological ecosystem.

El-Bayoumi also emphasized the need to develop and expand data centers to better accommodate both current and emerging quantum technologies, particularly for protecting critical data from sophisticated cyber threats.

Eng. Mohamed El-Mufti underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and private sector to harness the potential of quantum technologies. He emphasized leveraging the private sector’s successful international partnerships and experiences to promote the optimal use of quantum computing in critical sectors. By utilizing high-speed and ultra-precise quantum computing systems, El-Mufti believes Egypt can ensure a brighter future across all business sectors, driving development and accelerating progress.
