The British Ambassador to Cairo, Gareth Bayley,  emphasized that the role of an ambassador is to facilitate communication between countries, whether political, economic, or otherwise, and stressed that Egypt and the UK share a highly effective collaboration.

He noted that while there are various perceptions about Egypt, every week spent in the country clears these misconceptions, enhancing clarity and understanding. He also praised the British Council’s agenda, highlighting its positive impact.

This came during the arrival of the largest British academic delegation to Egypt, under the auspices of Egypt’s Ministry of Higher Education and the British Embassy in Cairo. The delegation’s goal is to explore academic and research collaboration opportunities in Egypt.

The delegation included representatives from top British universities such as Sheffield Hallam, Loughborough, Essex, East Anglia, Exeter, Chester, among others, as well as the British Universities International Group. The visit, running from February 16 to 18, is being coordinated by Egypt’s Supreme Council of Universities and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in London, in partnership with the British Council in Egypt and the support of the British Embassy.

The discussions during the visit focused on the opening of international university branches in Egypt, the development of joint academic programs, and strengthening research and innovation partnerships.

The visit’s program also included the signing of memoranda of understanding between the University of Essex, East Anglia, and Ain Shams University, along with another agreement between Sheffield Hallam University and the British University in Cairo. Additionally, the delegation visited European universities in Egypt, including the New Cairo University of Technology, Ain Shams University, and held a cultural dinner and networking event with the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Gareth Bayley, the British Ambassador, were present at the event.
