Yousra, a renowned Egyptian actress, will receive two awards at the 7th Beirut International Women’s Film Festival. She will also be the guest of honor as part of the tribute to artistic achievements and in recognition of her long career in cinema and art.
The Festival’s activities will continue from April 15 to 19. More than 73 films, including a variety of short and feature films, stories, documentaries, and animated and experimental films from 35 different countries, will be screened in the Big Cinema halls at ABC Dbayeh. The festival also includes seminars and dialogue sessions.
The Festival will end on April 19 with an award ceremony chosen by the jury members, including 18 members of filmmakers, actors, and great artists. It will be divided into special commissions for each category of films screened.
This event attracts an elite group of cinema and art to celebrate the excellence and creativity of women in the world of cinema. It plays a central role in strengthening women’s role in cinema, honoring their distinguished contributions, and highlighting the leadership role of women in society.
BWFF accepts Lebanese and international films, feature films, and short films in all categories: fiction, Documentary, Animation and experimental, and Dance films.
The Festival received more than 1200 submissions from more than 100 countries for its latest edition, and applicants varied between fresh startup filmmakers and independent professional women filmmakers.
BWFF’s mission is inspired by the Beirut Film Society’s statement, which believes in providing equal opportunities for Lebanese and foreign Women filmmakers.
Hence, the Festival was born with clear objectives: to educate future generations of filmmakers on such an issue, shed light on successful stories of women in cinema, empower them, set back certain equilibrium in the way they are portrayed, and remove the silhouette that was forced to be put on them.
