NCW Commends State Lawsuits Authority for Appointing Women to Newly Established Leadership Roles

In a landmark move for gender equity within Egypt’s judicial system, the National Council for Women (NCW) has praised the recent decision by Counsel Dr. Hussein Madkour – Head of the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority (ESLA) to establish two new senior leadership positions and appoint two distinguished female judges to the roles. The appointments are being hailed as a “ momentum” in institutional support for women in leadership within the legal field.

The two new leadership roles, both reporting directly to the Head of the Authority, include:

  • Head of the Department for the Assignment and Transfers of Judicial Members, now led by Counselor Yomna Mohamed Reda Badir
  • Head of the Secretariat for Women’s Affairs, Development, and Governance, assigned to Counselor Mai Marwan Abdallah

A Strategic Win for Gender Equality in Egypt’s Legal Institutions

In an official statement, Counselor Amal Ammar, President of the National Council for Women, expressed deep appreciation for the Authority’s decision, emphasizing its alignment with national efforts to enhance women’s leadership in all sectors.

She described the appointments as “a milestone in the journey of women’s empowerment within the State Lawsuits Authority”, reflecting a broader shift toward inclusive governance and gender-balanced leadership.


Reflecting the Vision of President El-Sisi and Egypt’s 2030 Agenda

The move aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which prioritizes equality, governance, and women’s full participation in all spheres of public life. Counselor Ammar highlighted that these appointments also reinforce President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s national vision of empowering women and breaking gender barriers in traditionally male-dominated sectors.

Celebrating Role Models for the Next Generation

In her closing remarks, Counselor Ammar congratulated Counselors Yomna Reda and Mai Marwan, calling them “exemplary models for aspiring women leaders in the judiciary.” She noted that their appointments will not only inspire women in legal fields, but also strengthen public confidence in the competence and leadership of female judicial professionals.
