As Egypt entered the second day of its 2025 Senate elections, the National Council for Women (NCW) released a report through its Central Operations Room, highlighting a notably high turnout of women voters across the country.

Headed by Eman Khalifa, Secretary-General of the Council, the operations room has been closely monitoring the election process through a network of 1,688 field monitors overseeing 2,064 polling stations.

Women Lead Once Again at the Ballot Box

According to the Council’s report, women were at the forefront of voter participation, with turnout surging especially during early morning hours and late afternoon, while midday periods saw moderate attendance.

In a statement, Counselor Amal Ammar expressed pride in the continued civic engagement of Egyptian women:

“The Egyptian woman, as always, leads from the front—bearing responsibility and answering the call of the nation with courage and positivity.”

She lauded women and young girls for their commitment to exercising their constitutional rights, emphasizing that their active political participation reflects a deep awareness and belief in the power of their vote as a tool for real change.

Participation Across Age Groups

The NCW’s preliminary data revealed that:

  • The 20–40 age group made up the largest share of female voters throughout the day.
  • Women above the age of 40 were more present in early morning hours.
  • Male participation increased during the evening period.

Women in Leadership and Electoral Oversight Roles

The report also highlighted the significant presence of women in electoral management and security roles, noting that:

  • A notable number of polling stations were headed by female judges from the Administrative Prosecution Authority and the State Lawsuits Authority.
  • Women were also active members of polling station staff and served as part of the election security forces, underlining their multifaceted involvement in the democratic process.

A Symbol of Democratic Maturity

NCW Secretary-General Eman Khalifa emphasized that the recurring image of strong female voter participation across all national elections in recent years is a clear indicator of Egyptian women’s political maturity and deep sense of national responsibility.

Meanwhile, NCW official Isis Mahmoud added that all sub-operational rooms across governorates were fully activated and coordinated with the central unit to ensure accurate real-time monitoring and swift reporting of any irregularities.

Women’s Political Empowerment

The NCW’s report reaffirms its long-standing mission of promoting women’s political engagement, a core pillar of Egypt’s broader national strategy for gender equality and empowerment.

As the 2025 Senate elections progress, the Council’s presence and detailed tracking underscore the vital role women continue to play in Egypt’s democratic landscape—both as voters and leaders.
