Shell Egypt Increases Gas Production to 330 Million Cubic Feet Per Day with $300 Million Investment: CEO

Mona Yousef

Shell Egypt, led by CEO Dalia El Gabry, has announced an increase in its natural gas production in Egypt, reaching 330 million cubic feet per day. This significant achievement is aligned with the company’s ongoing investments in new development phases aimed at sustaining and enhancing gas production in partnership with the Egyptian government.

Major Investments in the West Delta Deep Gas Concession

Shell is investing $300 million in collaboration with Petronas, focusing on the 11th phase of the West Delta Deep Concession, which includes drilling three new gas wells. This phase aims to develop 90 billion cubic feet of additional gas, with the wells being integrated into the existing subsea infrastructure. Shell started drilling operations and plans to commence production from the first well by 2025.

Gabry emphasized the company’s commitment to sustaining growth in Egypt’s energy sector, noting that the company’s efforts continue to align with the country’s energy objectives.

Focus on Exploration and Development in the Mediterranean

In addition to the West Delta projects, Shell has made significant strides in the exploration sector. The company recently completed the drilling of an exploratory well in the North East Amreya area, a collaboration with its partner COVPEK. Shell remains the operator of this area following the partnership agreement in September 2023, reinforcing its role in the Mediterranean’s offshore exploration.

Gabry also highlighted Shell’s strategic focus on gas production in deepwater concession areas in 2025, including exploring nearby regions that can be connected to the existing infrastructure. The company is also working to enhance the Egyptian Liquefied Natural Gas (ELNG) facility to maximize efficiency.

Advancing Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Goals

Shell’s gas development strategy includes 4D seismic surveys in the West Delta Deep Concession to uncover potential gas reserves still available in the region. Shell is collaborating with Rosneft on a program to identify residual gas quantities and enhance extraction rates, optimizing the existing infrastructure.

Additionally, Shell is working with EGAS and Petronas to develop a unified energy system to serve both the West Delta Concession and the ELNG facility. This project aligns with Egypt’s objectives to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions.

Commitment to Egypt’s Gas Market and Regional Energy Role

Despite fluctuations in production due to the cyclical nature of field development, Gabry reiterated Shell’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s growing natural gas needs. The company remains dedicated to maximizing production through continuous investment in exploration and infrastructure, positioning Egypt as a key player in the regional energy market.

Gabry concluded by reaffirming Shell’s dedication to the Egyptian market and its ongoing role in advancing the country’s energy goals, further solidifying its partnership with Egypt’s energy sector and enhancing its global operations.
