Minister of Housing In Talks With EBRD Delegation To Forge ongoing partnership

On Wednesday evening, Eng. Sherif El-Sharif, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, met with Ms. Sue Barrett, Head of Infrastructure for Europe and the Middle East at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), along with her accompanying delegation. The meeting focused on strengthening the areas of collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and the EBRD as part of the bank’s ongoing support for Egypt’s development projects.

El-Sharif welcomed Ms. Barrett and the delegation, expressing his appreciation for the meeting and emphasizing the Ministry’s commitment to expanding cooperation with all partners that support the implementation of Egypt’s developmental projects.

During the meeting, the Minister discussed key projects funded by the EBRD, including the development of sewage systems for villages near Lake Qarun in Fayoum Governorate, which will benefit 44 villages, and a similar project in Kafr El Sheikh serving 62 villages. He expressed his eagerness to extend this collaboration to include other projects across various sectors of the Ministry.

Ms. Barrett expressed her delight at the ongoing partnership between the EBRD and the Ministry of Housing, highlighting Egypt’s ongoing development efforts. She noted the bank’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s growth in vital sectors such as infrastructure and housing, which play a crucial role in driving economic growth.

The meeting also covered several areas of potential collaboration, including the continued expansion of Egypt’s infrastructure and utilities sector, which has seen significant progress since 2014. The discussions included efforts to ensure sustainable access to clean water and sewage services, as well as initiatives such as the presidential “Decent Life” initiative aimed at improving rural areas.

Both parties also reviewed proposals from the EBRD and explored opportunities to cooperate on ongoing and upcoming projects in the housing and utilities sectors.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continued communication and coordination to identify priority projects for the coming period, ensuring smooth collaboration between the Ministry of Housing and the EBRD in various sectors. They agreed to begin the necessary procedures for implementing these projects.
