Eng. Marguerite Saroufim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, participated in the annual event hosted by the “Egypt Without Disease” Healthcare Foundation, held under the theme “One Act of Giving Opens Endless Doors of Opportunity.” The event brought together Eng. Mona El-Batraoui, Deputy Governor of Cairo, Amb. Nabiela Makram, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, Amb. Suha El Gendy, former Minister of Immigration, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, and Dr. Lamia Kamel, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of “Egypt Without Disease,”among others.
In her speech, Eng. Saroufim expressed her joy in attending the celebration, which she described as the culmination of outstanding efforts and pioneering initiatives aimed at improving the lives of many Egyptians. She praised the foundation’s mission to create a vision for a healthier society free of preventable diseases.
Saroufim noted that the Egyptian state has made significant strides in improving its healthcare system, both by developing healthcare infrastructure and providing advanced medical services to all citizens. She emphasized that the government aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the healthcare services available to citizens, with a particular focus on ensuring access to high-quality medical services in underserved areas.
The Deputy Minister also explained that the Ministry of Social Solidarity is working on several initiatives that intersect with all segments of society, especially those most in need, ensuring that interventions are comprehensive, addressing social, economic, and health dimensions. Through its “Takaful and Karama” program, the government promotes health conditions aimed at improving the health of children and mothers. This includes encouraging families to follow health practices, such as regular check-ups for children, vaccination programs, increased use of maternity care services, improving food spending for poor families, and reducing malnutrition rates among children and mothers.
Furthermore, the Ministry’s “Mawada” program, launched in 2019 under the direct mandate of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, focuses on empowering and preparing couples for marriage. The program helps develop essential life skills for building healthy and safe marital relationships and is implemented in collaboration with various government sectors, international organizations, and civil society institutions.
Dr. Lamia Kamel, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the “Egypt Without Disease” Foundation, emphasized that the organization believes giving is the driving force for change. “Through this event, we celebrate the impactful partnerships that have supported our mission to provide comprehensive healthcare that preserves human dignity and enhances humanity. We continue our efforts to improve our healthcare services to meet the growing needs of the Egyptian community, with a focus on ensuring sustainability for a positive impact,” she affirmed.
