Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Egypt’s Minister of Environment, has confirmed a remarkable turnout at the Ministry’s pavilion at the 56th Cairo International Book Fair, as the public from all walks of life visited to benefit from the various activities on offer. The aim is to engage the current generation in the environmental system and contribute to achieving the comprehensive concept of sustainable development in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030, while promoting the ideas of resource conservation and environmental awareness.
The pavilion, managed by the Ministry’s Environmental Awareness Team, features a variety of activities. These include showcasing the ministry’s achievements and projects, such as the Presidential Initiative “Itahdar Lil Akhdar” to raise environmental awareness, “Eco Egypt”, Solid Waste Management, E-Tadweer, and others. These initiatives are aimed at raising public awareness about pressing global and local environmental issues.
Dr. Fouad added that the ministry’s pavilion is hosting a series of educational activities, including environmental games, competitions, a coloring station, and art workshops focused on reusing waste materials to create artwork. Cultural workshops are also part of the program, aimed at explaining the role of youth and children in environmental conservation, with open dialogues on the ministry’s role and various sectors involved in environmental sustainability.
Additionally, short puppet theater performances and cartoon screenings on electronic waste are being shown, along with discussions on the topic. Visitors are also receiving gifts, brochures, and a variety of environmental pamphlets. The pavilion this year is offering hundreds of informative leaflets on various environmental issues.
The Ministry’s participation is supported by the National Waste Management Program and the “Transforming Financial Systems for Climate in Egypt” (TFSC Egypt) project
