The trial operation of the expanded East Port Said Port is scheduled to begin in April 2025, according to Keld Mosgaard Christensen, Managing Director of Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT). During a recent meeting with Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Mosgaard provided an update on the progress of the 955-meter-long container handling station, part of the A.P. Moller Terminals Group.
The expansion project, located at East Port Said, has seen the completion of its construction phase and equipment installation. This includes the arrival of eight quay cranes, with an additional four set to arrive in April 2025, bringing the total number of quay cranes to 30.
With these upgrades, the container handling station’s capacity will increase significantly, rising from 5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 7 million TEUs. This expansion aims to enhance the port’s role in global trade by increasing its container processing capacity, making it more competitive on the international logistics stage.
Rabie expressed the Suez Canal Authority’s commitment to supporting the port’s development, emphasizing Egypt’s strategic geographical advantage and its material and human resource capabilities, all of which are expected to strengthen East Port Said’s position on the global maritime map.
