Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, held an extensive meeting to discuss the National Strategy for the Global Market Access of Pharmaceutical Products. The meeting took place at the Ministry of Health and Population’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting was in line with supporting Egypt’s government objectives and programs to enhance exports and increase global market presence.
Attendees included Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawi, Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority; Dr. Hisham Abu Steit, Head of the Unified Procurement Authority; Ambassador Abu Bakr Hafni, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration; Dr. Olfat Ghorab, Chairperson of the Arab Company for Drug and Medical Supplies Industries “Akhdeema”; Dr. Mohamed Gad, Advisor to the Minister of Health for External Health Relations; Dr. Peter Wajih, Head of the Therapeutic Medicine Sector; Dr. Hisham Badr, Deputy Head of the Unified Procurement Authority for Medical Technology and Digital Transformation; Brigadier General Hatem Salah El-Din, Director of the Procurement Authority’s Contracting Department; Dr. Madihah Khattab, Chairperson of Africa Pharma Company; Dr. Hend Ashour, Director of the General Pharmacy Administration at the Ministry of Health; and Dr. Om Kolthoum El-Sayed, Head of the Planning Department at the Unified Procurement Authority.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the Egyptian government’s strong commitment to boosting Egyptian exports, particularly in vital sectors such as pharmaceuticals and medical supplies. He highlighted the significant role these sectors play in fostering economic growth and supporting the national economy, driven by Egypt’s vast potential and substantial production capacity, which positions the country to become a regional hub for exporting pharmaceutical products and medical supplies worldwide. This approach focuses on meeting global market demands while adhering to international standards.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, elaborated that the meeting focused on establishing a clear, comprehensive vision and efficient execution mechanisms to expand Egypt’s market share globally. The discussions emphasized setting specific timelines and working accordingly to achieve tangible results that align with the government’s plan to enhance exports and support national industry.
The discussions also centered on intensifying efforts to increase trade volume in the pharmaceutical and medical supplies sectors, which would lead to the growth of the medical and pharmaceutical industries both locally and globally.
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar noted that the Minister of Health emphasized the need for collaboration between both the public and private sectors to achieve the desired objectives. In this regard, the meeting also addressed identifying any challenges that might hinder the increase in exports and finding solutions through coordination with relevant authorities.
He also extended gratitude to the attendees for their efforts, reaffirming that this strategy would contribute to a transformative leap in Egypt’s medical exports in the coming years. He pointed out that Egypt possesses significant advantages, including qualified human resources and modern infrastructure in this sector, which further qualifies the country to export pharmaceuticals and medical supplies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold joint meetings to establish the implementation mechanisms for the National Strategy for Pharmaceutical Market Access.
