Ninety Aid Trucks Cross into Gaza Following Ceasefire Agreement

News Agencies

On Sunday afternoon, 90 aid trucks departed from Egyptian territory, crossing through the Karam Abu Salem and Awja crossings in preparation for their entry into Gaza. The trucks marked the first wave of aid shipments following a long-awaited ceasefire that came into effect shortly after 11:00 a.m. The ceasefire agreement allows for 600 aid trucks to enter Gaza daily, with 50 of them carrying fuel, as announced by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atty on Saturday.

Sources reported a two-hour delay on the Israeli side after the ceasefire began, with trucks being permitted into the inspection area only after the delay.

Since the Israeli military took control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing in May 2023, the flow of aid trucks into Gaza has been severely limited. Before the conflict, around 500 trucks per day entered Gaza.

In addition, the World Food Programme reported that aid trucks, laden with flour and food parcels, have started entering Gaza via the Karam Abu Salem and Zikim crossings. Prior to the ceasefire, Egyptian authorities had positioned aid and fuel trucks at the Rafah crossing, ready to enter as soon as the truce took effect.

The ceasefire, initially scheduled to begin earlier, was delayed by two hours to 11:15 a.m. due to Hamas’s late submission of the names of the three Israeli captives to be released on the first day.

Egyptian officials, including Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar and Social Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy, inspected the Red Crescent’s strategic warehouse and other logistical centers in Arish city and at the Rafah crossing to ensure that aid and medical supplies were ready for dispatch.
