Egypt has officially commenced the production of its first entirely local router at the Egyptian Silicon Industries Company (SICO) factory located in Assiut Governorate.

This initiative is part of e& Egypt’s comprehensive strategy to enhance local manufacturing capabilities and deliver innovative technology solutions tailored to customer needs. The strategy also includes plans to export Egyptian-made products to international markets, according to Ahram Online.

The new router, which incorporates advanced 5G technology, is the first to be produced domestically by an Egyptian company, marking a significant milestone in the country’s technology and telecommunications sector.

The development of this router was achieved in collaboration with the Chinese company ToZed, a recognized leader in networking devices.

In October, the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) formalized an agreement with Egypt’s three major telecom operators—Orange Egypt, Vodafone Egypt, and e& Egypt—granting them licenses to operate fifth-generation (5G) mobile services.

As part of this partnership, ToZed is transferring its specialized knowledge and expertise to the SICO factory. This collaboration aims to ensure that the newly manufactured products comply with international quality standards, thereby enhancing the overall excellence of e& Egypt’s offerings.

e& Egypt has emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to bolstering the local manufacturing sector. It aligns with a broader vision to strengthen Egypt’s technological infrastructure and promote sustainable economic development. Moreover, the partnership with SICO is viewed as a critical step toward establishing Egypt as a regional hub for technology and digital manufacturing. This development is anticipated to create new opportunities within the local telecommunications and information technology industries, further solidifying Egypt’s position as a key player in the global tech landscape.

“This step is a significant achievement that reflects our ambitious vision to enhance local industry in Egypt. It supports the country’s economic growth and the development of its technology sector,” said Ahmed Yehia, CEO of e& Egypt’s Financial Technology and Digital Applications.

“We firmly believe that investing in local industry is crucial to achieving technological excellence. This aligns perfectly with the Egyptian government’s strategy to localize electronics manufacturing, and we are committed to leveraging Egypt’s top talents while forging strategic partnerships with the world’s leading companies to deliver products of the highest quality,” he added.
