Egypt Launches Green Label Initiative for Sustainable Plastics

News Agencies

The Egyptian Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the Waste Management Regulatory Agency (WMRA), the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), and the National Solid Waste Management Program, has launched a project to develop guidelines for the Green Label for Plastic Products.

The Green Label initiative aims to promote sustainable plastic production and consumption by recognizing and certifying environmentally friendly plastic products. The guidelines will provide clear criteria for manufacturers to adhere to, such as using recycled materials, designing products for easy recycling, and promoting biodegradable options.

By implementing the Green Label system, Egypt seeks to reduce plastic waste, conserve resources, and mitigate the negative environmental impacts associated with plastic pollution. The initiative aligns with the global movement towards sustainable practices and circular economy principles.
