Egypt is set to improve its air quality and noise pollution levels with the procurement of 180 electric public transport buses, funded by a World Bank loan.
Eng. Reem Abdel Rahman, Head of the Central Administration for Air Quality and Noise Protection at the Ministry of Environment, announced that a tender is currently open for the purchase of these eco-friendly vehicles.
During a recent meeting of the Energy and Environment Committee of the House of Representatives, chaired by Representative Talat El-Sweedy, the government’s commitment to promoting electric vehicles and raising awareness of their environmental benefits was highlighted.
The committee also discussed the importance of establishing Egyptian standards for charging stations to ensure compatibility with authorized electric vehicles.
The meeting, attended by representatives from various ministries and regulatory authorities, concluded with several key recommendations. Further discussions are expected to solidify Egypt’s transition towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation sector.
