Egypt’s Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, and the Minister of State for Military Production, Mohamed Salah El-Din Mustafa, inaugurated green banana fiber recycling plant. The factory that transforms banana fiber waste into eco-friendly cardboard packaging, located at the Armored Vehicles Production and Repair Factory (Military Factory 200).

The collaboration between the Ministry of Military Production and the Australian company Paperius has resulted in a two-phase approach to waste utilization. The first phase involved establishing a factory in Sohag Governorate to convert banana waste into fiber. The second phase, marked by the inauguration of the new factory, focuses on the production of eco-friendly cardboard packaging using this fiber.

The factory is equipped with an integrated automatic production line capable of producing 60 million cardboard boxes annually. This not only reduces reliance on traditional packaging materials but also provides employment opportunities for over 110 individuals.

The environmental benefits of this initiative are significant, helping to reduce pollution, conserve natural resources, and mitigate the negative impact of waste disposal. Additionally, the project aims to replace 10,000 tons of plastic products annually, further contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment.

Minister Fouad emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting green industries and sustainable practices. She announced the upcoming launch of an online platform that will connect businesses and investors with sustainable projects, fostering innovation and collaboration in the environmental sector.
