The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is set to commence a trial run on October 16, 2024. This monumental facility, located near the Pyramids of Giza, is poised to become the largest archaeological museum in the world, showcasing the rich history and treasures of ancient Egypt.
The trial run will allow the museum to test its operational systems, visitor services, and exhibition setups ahead of its official opening. GEM will house over 100,000 artifacts, including many never before displayed to the public, with a focus on the collection of King Tutankhamun.
Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, emphasized the importance of this trial period. “This is a crucial step towards ensuring that when we officially open our doors, we provide an unforgettable experience that reflects the grandeur of our heritage,” he stated.
The GEM has been under construction for nearly two decades, with a vision to provide an enhanced educational experience for visitors. The trial run will involve limited access to select groups, including media representatives and scholars, allowing for feedback and adjustments before the grand opening.
Once operational, the Grand Egyptian Museum will boost tourism and contribute significantly to Egypt’s economy, attracting millions of visitors each year. With its state-of-the-art facilities and stunning architecture, the museum aims to position Egypt as a leading destination for cultural tourism.
As anticipation builds for the trial run, Egypt is poised to reaffirm its status as a custodian of ancient history, inviting the world to explore the wonders of its past at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
