President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi officially inaugurated Bashteel Railway Station on October 12, 2024. Located in Giza, this new station is set to be a major hub for passengers traveling to and from Upper Egypt. Remarkably, it is four times larger than the historic Ramses Railway Station in central Cairo.
Bashteel Railway Station aims to serve as the main gateway to Upper Egypt. Built in a central location in northern Giza, it will alleviate congestion at Ramses Station, which currently accommodates around 1.1 million passengers daily, as noted by Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir.
Key Features
The station can handle up to 250,000 passengers per day and features 28 ticket windows. It also boasts 12 railway platforms, workshops for tractors and carriages, and a dedicated storage hub. Further, the station will include a commercial mall, a four-star hotel, and 28 towers for commercial, administrative, and residential use.
Integrated Transportation Network
Bashteel Railway Station will link various transportation modes, including the Cairo Metro’s third line, the Monorail, and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system.
Modern Facilities
The station features advanced technology, suchas smart interchange systems, electronic ticket gates, and passenger guidance screens. It also ensures comfort and safety through a modern fire and alarm system.
Investment and Future Projects
The total cost of the Bashteel project is EGP 4.7 billion. President El-Sisi also inaugurated additional transportation projects, including the third phase of the Cairo Metro and the Al-Fardan-Bir Al-Abd railway line in North Sinai.
