The R&A, the governing body for golf outside North America, celebrated the graduation of exceptional women from its Women in Golf Leadership Foundation Programme (WIGLFP) on Tuesday, May 21st. Held virtually, the event showcased the achievements of these participants, all supported by their line managers.

This program empowers women in the Egyptian golf industry by equipping them with essential leadership skills. Participants delivered presentations highlighting their learnings and experiences throughout the program, demonstrating its positive impact on their personal and professional development.

The graduation ceremony marks a significant step towards gender equality in Egyptian golf. These graduates are now positioned at the forefront of the industry, bringing fresh ideas and perspectives while showcasing their potential for leadership success. Their participation also underscores the commitment of Egyptian organizations to diversity and inclusion within the workplace.

The WIGLFP is a testament to The R&A’s dedication to supporting women in golf. Mrs. Jackie Davidson, the Golf Development Director at The R&A, opened the ceremony by emphasizing the organization’s ongoing efforts to create leadership opportunities for women in the sport.

A Transformative Educational Experience

Spanning seven months (November 2023 – May 2024), the WIGLFP offers a unique blend of education and networking opportunities. Each monthly session focuses on core leadership principles, starting with developing a “growth mindset” and boosting emotional intelligence (EQ). This foundation empowers participants to become stronger communicators and build their leadership presence.

The program goes beyond group sessions by providing each participant with personalized coaching. Yara Abdelnasser, a graduate of the program, highlighted the impact of these sessions: “My coaching sessions with Rebecca Hembrough were invaluable. Her insightful questions helped me organize my thoughts and open myself to new ideas, ultimately leading to personal growth.”

The WIGLFP extends beyond technical skills, fostering personal development and mental well-being. Miss Abdelnasser emphasizes, “This program taught me to find my voice and speak up as a leader, both for myself and others. I learned to manage and express my emotions effectively, while recognizing the importance of mental health awareness.”

Investing in the Future of Golf Leadership

The knowledge gained from the WIGLFP equips graduates with the tools they need to excel in their careers. Enhanced communication skills benefit them both personally and professionally, propelling them on their journey to becoming successful leaders.

As Abdelnasser concludes, “The first step to becoming a leader is to lead yourself first. Pursue your goals and dreams, overcome your limitations, and become the person you aspire to be.” The WIGLFP graduates are well on their way to achieving just that, paving the way for a brighter future in Egyptian golf.
