After the attack on a Hamas office in southern Beirut, which is believed to have been triggered by an Israeli drone strike, Lebanese Interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati acted quickly to denounce what he considered to be Israel’s breach of Lebanon’s sovereignty.
Six people were killed in this incident, including two military chiefs and Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy leader of Hamas. Al-Arouri’s death was confirmed by Hamas, but Israel was held accountable by Lebanon’s acting prime minister.
Following the attack, Mikati gave the foreign minister instructions to immediately file a complaint to the UN Security Council.
Furthermore, the Hezbollah movement in Lebanon has threatened to retaliate against Israel responding to this terrorist attack.
At the same time, there have been reports in Israeli media that the strike is to blame for the halt in peace negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
