Netflix has added the Greek Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, to the list of historical figures stolen by Afro-centric beliefs. The four-episode documentary is scheduled to premiere on 10 May.
The new show is produced by Jada Pinkett Smith and is supposed to be a documentary with so-called “experts” that claim Queen Cleopatra was Egyptian and of black skin.
Egyptologists who insist that Cleopatra was Greek, including former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass, described the documentary’s ideas as “falsifying facts”. Paintings of Cleopatra in 1 AD depict her as a white, red-head Caucasian.
According to the Afro-centric ideology, African-Americans are claiming Egyptian history and are promoting the idea of occupying modern-day Egypt, because Egyptians stole their identity.
According to modern research, modern-day Egyptians can be traced back to their ancient Egyptian ancestors through DNA. Yet, Afro-centrism also promotes the idea that modern-day Egyptians are “descendants of colonizers”, which has been proved many times to be a lie.
