National Council of Women (NCW), headed by Dr. Maya Morsi, held the first meeting of Women’s Empowerment Working Group in the light of UN partnership for development. Among the attendees were Blerta Aliko, the UN Women Country Representative, Eric Oechslin, ILO Director, along with representatives at UN organizations in Egypt and Ministries of Planning, Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Social Solidarity.
The meeting discussed women’s empowerment in partnership with the UN for achieving sustainable development strategy 2030.
During the meeting, the president of the National Council of Women (NCW), Dr. Maya Morsi, referred to the development of UN-Women’s Strategic Plan, 2018-2021, which is considered a partnership between the UN organizations and the Egyptian government to support Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
Dr. Maya Morsi also praised the Egyptian government’s major efforts during the last period to add women’s empowerment as a new pillar in this partnership. She also highlighted that the working group will be responsible for carrying out the joint working plans related to women’s empowerment, monitoring, and assessing the outcomes of these plans according to certain indicators.
She also stated the meeting tackled the achievements related to women’s empowerment in 2018, the role of the working group during the coming period. The members of the working group also exchanged their vision and outlined future cooperation.
