The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has launched the “Open Your Account in Egypt” initiative to facilitate access to banking services for Egyptians living abroad. The initiative is part of the bank’s broader strategy to expand its international customer base and strengthen digital and direct banking channels.
Soha El-Turky, Executive Vice President of the National Bank of Egypt, said the new program reflects the bank’s ongoing efforts to connect with Egyptians overseas and make financial services more accessible, secure, and inclusive.
Empowering Egyptians Abroad Through Digital Banking
El-Turky explained that the initiative enables Egyptians residing abroad to open bank accounts easily and securely, integrating them into Egypt’s financial system and offering a comprehensive banking experience that meets their personal and investment needs.
Through this program, NBE provides a diverse suite of financial products and services specifically designed for expatriates, including:
- Multi-currency bank accounts
- Secure and fast money transfer channels
- Access to digital banking services
- The ability to purchase and redeem savings certificates remotely
El-Turky emphasized that the bank continues to expand its digital solutions to help customers manage their finances anytime and anywhere, reflecting NBE’s role as a leader in Egypt’s digital transformation and financial inclusion agenda.
A Joint National Effort
The initiative is part of a broader national program launched by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs.
As part of this effort, NBE and Banque Misr signed a cooperation protocol with both ministries to facilitate the account-opening process for Egyptians working abroad through Egyptian embassies and consulates in multiple countries.
Simplified Account Opening Process
Under the new initiative, Egyptians abroad can open bank accounts using only a valid national ID card or passport, by visiting any Egyptian embassy or consulate. Once registered, customers can enjoy a wide range of services, including:
- Internet and mobile banking enrollment
- Real-time fund transfers and balance inquiries
- Easy access to investment and savings products
Supporting Financial Inclusion and National Growth
El-Turky noted that the initiative represents a continuation of the NBE’s commitment to digital transformation and financial inclusion, while strengthening ties with Egyptians living abroad.
“The program provides a secure and reliable channel for our citizens overseas to manage their savings and invest in Egypt’s economy,” she said, adding that the initiative reinforces the bank’s role as a bridge between Egyptian expatriates and their homeland.
