At the 9th Critics Awards for Arab Films, part of the 78th Cannes Film Festival, Egypt has had its significant stamp on films, leading the nominations. One of the Egyptian films was Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo, a touching drama debut, directed by Khaled Mansour. The film touched on various themes such as guilt, redemption, and the animal love.
Seeking Haven for Mr. Rambo takes you on Hassan’s journey, a young man who makes it a mission to protect his beloved dog, “Mr. Rambo,” from real threats. It is an emotional story, drawn in a greatly crafted screenplay, which was co-written by Mansour and Mohamed El-Hosseiny.
It was Venice Film Festival 2024, where the film premiered. At Cannes, it attained multiple nominations, including Best Feature Film, Best Director, Best Actor for Essam Omar, Best Actress for Rakeen Saad, and Best Editing for Yasser Azmy. Notably, Mr. Rambo’s story charges into more international festivals with force, including the Red Sea International Film Festival, where it received the Yusr Award from a jury chaired by director Spike Lee.
The film features Sama Ibrahim and Ahmed Bahaa–Sharmoofers’ band co-founder—in his screen debut, Rasha Hosny in her debut production, and cinematographer Ahmed Tarek Bayoum.
