Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Badr Abdel Atty, highlighted the significant role women play in Egypt’s development, affirming that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi prioritizes their involvement as essential partners in national progress. His remarks came during the opening session of the 10th General Conference of the Arab Women Organization, held under the auspices of President El-Sisi.
Strengthening Women’s Empowerment in Egypt
In his speech, Minister Abdel-Aty emphasized the crucial role of the Arab Women Organization, headquartered in Egypt, in providing a platform for exchanging ideas and successful experiences in supporting and empowering women across various sectors. He expressed appreciation for the tireless efforts of women, especially the steadfast Palestinian women defending the rights of the Palestinian people amidst the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza.
He also acknowledged the importance of protecting women from cyber violence and the threats arising from technology and artificial intelligence, stressing the need for innovative solutions to ensure their safety in the digital space.
Promoting Regional Collaboration and Sharing Best Practices
The minister called for greater regional collaboration in tackling cyber violence and improving safety in the online world. He advocated for the exchange of best practices and knowledge to collectively address these growing issues. He also highlighted various initiatives and legislations introduced by Egypt to safeguard women in the digital realm. These include the Cybercrime Law, the Communications Regulation Law, and the launch of technology hackathons aimed at combating online violence. Additionally, the Egyptian government has partnered with social media platforms to raise awareness about the risks of cyber violence and provide preventive measures.
Egypt’s Commitment to Women’s Rights and Empowerment
Minister Abdel-Aty went on to outline Egypt’s pioneering efforts to promote women’s rights and protect them from all forms of violence. He referenced the country’s National Human Rights Strategy, which includes a specific focus on enhancing women’s rights. He also discussed the launch of the 2030 National Strategy for the Empowerment of Women, which has led to increased female representation in judicial positions and parliament.

Closing his address, Abdel-Aty reaffirmed Egypt’s continued commitment to enhancing women’s roles in all sectors of society. He noted that this direction is in line with Egypt’s broader vision of achieving sustainable and inclusive development, with women at the core of these efforts.
