Egyptian women are becoming more present in the 2024 presidential race, showcasing their dedication to their country’s responsibilities and influencing its destiny.
Egyptian women living overseas created a new standard for patriotism as voting got underway on December 1. They have been among the first in line to cast their ballots at Egyptian embassies across the world since the wee hours of the morning.
These women have not only come alone, but they have also brought their kids with them, all decked out in Egyptian flag-themed t-shirts. They were observed emphasizing the value of voting and forming in their kids the habit of taking part in national duties.
They took them as a way to teach their children the importance of casting votes and participating in the selection of future leaders.
The youngsters were exposed to patriotic scenes at the polling places, where they saw the Egyptian flag being raised and national songs being sung while echoing phrases like “Long live Egypt.”
December 1st marked the opening of 106 polling places across the globe and the first day of voting for Egyptian expatriates in the 2024 presidential election. There will be three days for voting, from December 1st to December 3rd, at 137 embassies and consulates in 121 nations.
Egyptian expatriates have always participated actively in their country’s electoral processes. With almost 3 million Egyptians living abroad, Saudi Arabia is home to the largest Egyptian population. Riyadh and Jeddah each have two polling places.
In the 2012 presidential election, there were approximately 314,000 foreign voters; this number slightly increased to over 318,000 in 2014, but it decreased to just over 157,000 votes in the 2018 election.
In the event that a run-off is not necessary, the final results will be revealed on December 18. Hazem Omar, Farid Zahran, Abdel-Sanad Yamama, and current president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi are the contenders for the presidency.
