Egypt Completes Furnishing of Government Service Centers in 20 Governorates Under “Decent Life” Initiative

Egypt has completed the furnishing of 332 government service centers across 20 governorates as part of the first phase of the presidential  Hayah Karima initiative, a major national effort to transform rural infrastructure and public services. Minister of Local Development Dr. Manal Awad announced the milestone, highlighting that the standardized furnishing of these facilities came at a total cost of EGP 660 million.

The announcement follows a report submitted to the ministry by the Central Unit of the “Decent Life” initiative, which confirmed that all service centers—spanning 52 administrative centers—have now been equipped and are ready to operate at full capacity. The furnishing was designed to ensure functionality and uniformity, enabling each center to deliver comprehensive, citizen-focused government services.

According to Dr. Awad, each of the new centers represent a model for modern public service access in rural Egypt. Constructed over a total area of approximately 450 square meters, each facility consists of a ground floor and two upper levels, housing a variety of key government services under one roof. These include offices for the local administrative unit and local council, a civil registry, a notary office, social solidarity and supply services, a post office, and a technologically equipped citizen service center. The design ensures that citizens, particularly those in underserved areas, can access essential services efficiently and with dignity.

The EGP 660 million investment reflects the government’s commitment to maximizing the value of public funds by promoting local manufacturing and sustainable economic development. Dr. Awad further directed officials within the Ministry’s central unit to monitor and coordinate closely with local authorities to ensure proper maintenance and preservation of these public assets.

In parallel with the furnishing process, the Ministry of Local Development, in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, has begun installing the technological infrastructure necessary to operate the centers  efficiently in the digital era. This phase involves the procurement and setup of computers, peripherals, and networking equipment, with a total investment of approximately EGP 423 million. This technological rollout is expected to be completed before the end of 2025, providing a fully integrated digital service platform to rural communities.

These developments mark a major achievement within the first phase of the “Decent Life” initiative, a transformative program launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to elevate living standards and public services in Egypt’s rural heartlands.

By bringing together administrative services in a single, modern space, and integrating advanced technological tools, the government aims to create a more responsive, transparent, and citizen-centric model of public service—particularly in areas that have long suffered from underdevelopment.

The completion of this phase positions Egypt to continue making substantial progress in rural modernization, reinforcing the role of local government as a pillar of national development and social justice.
