News Agencies

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has partnered with the government of Egypt to turn the 6th of October Metropolis into a green city. The new strategy will be implemented by various government agencies and the 6th of October City Authority in collaboration with the European Bank.

This partnership is part of Egypt’s strong relationship with the EBRD, one of Europe’s largest multilateral development banks. The joint plan for 2022-2026 aims to promote Egypt’s green transition by focusing on three primary areas.

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, the Minister of International Work, emphasized the close cooperation between the two sides in implementing the Green Cities Program with the Bank. She further commended the Sixth of October City Authority for their efforts to reach an agreement.

In turn, Dr. Heike Harmgart, Regional Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region at the EBRD, expressed pride that the 6th of October City is the first city in Egypt to launch, complete, and adopt the Green Cities Action Plan. She looks forward to Alexandria and Cairo following suit.

This achievement is a result of the fruitful collaboration between the Ministry of International Cooperation, which fully supports the European Bank’s Green Cities Program, the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, which has made strategic contributions, and the Urban Communities Authority, which has provided supervision and guidance.
