CAPMAS: Unemployment Rate in Egypt Fell to 6.7% in the First Quarter of 2024

In the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, Egypt’s unemployment rate decreased to 6.7%, reflecting a 0.2% drop from the previous quarter. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) reported these statistics.

During the first quarter of 2024, the labor force was estimated to be 31.397 million individuals, reflecting a 1.0% increase from the previous quarter’s 31.101 million individuals.

13.758 million individuals were part of the urban labor force, while 17.639 million individuals were part of the rural labor force.

As for the gender level, the male labor force accounted for 25.537 million individuals, and the female labor force accounted for 5.860 million individuals.

In the current quarter, the number of unemployed individuals stood at 2.104 million, reflecting a 2.5% decrease compared to the previous quarter’s 2.159 million.

On the other hand, the number of employed individuals rose to 29.293 million, indicating a 1.2% increase from the previous quarter’s 28.942 million.

In urban areas, the number of employed individuals reached 12.464 million, while in rural areas, it reached 16.829 million.
