The management of the Aswan International Film Festival for Women revealed the judge committees for the seventh session held next March from 5 to 10, with the support of the Ministries of Culture and Tourism. Sixty-one films will participate in the event.
French director Julie Bertocelli will chair the feature film competition jury; her latest work is the documentary film “Jane Campion, the Woman of Cinema”, which was shown at the last session of the Cannes Festival.
Bertuccili’s resume is full of many awards, most notably the Critics’ Week Award from Cannes Festival in 2003 for the movie “When Awtar Left”, for which she also won the famous French Cesar Award for best first fictional work.
The committee also includes Egyptian actress Yasmine Raees, American clothing designer Dana Schundelmayr, Russian director Ksenia Okhbakna, and critic Magda Khairallah.
As for the short film category, the committee includes Lebanese actress Madeleine Tabar, Brazilian director and producer Rodrigo Brum, and director Kawthar Younes.
The great Tunisian director Salma Bakkar chairs the jury for the European Union Award for Best Euro-Mediterranean Film, and its members include Syrian actress Suzanne Najm El Din, Nada Doumani, director of the Amman Film Festival, writer Dr. Nesma Youssef Idris, and producer Safi El Din Mahmoud.
Dr. Ghada Gebara, President of the Academy of Arts, chairs the jury for the Egyptian Film Competition and includes Egyptian actress Naglaa Badr, and director of the Casablanca Arab Film Festival, Fatima Al-Nawali.
While the jury of the Impact Films Competition, organized by the festival in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, includes director Sherif Mandour, producer Ashraf Hamed, and Kuwaiti plastic artist Lina Hijazi.
Three young critics are participating in the Egyptian Film Critics Association, namely, Amal Magdy, Diaa Mostafa, and Areej Gamal.
It is noteworthy that the Aswan International Film Festival for Women honors the star Nabila Obaid for her entire cinematic career, and media personality Doria Sharaf El-Din in appreciation of her role in spreading cinematic culture, Spanish star Cuca Escribano, Dutch director Mika de Jong, and famed Tunisian director and producer Salma Bakkar during the upcoming session.
