The Aswan Women’s Film Festival’s eighth session honored Tunisian star Hend Sabry for her work and screened her film “Four Daughters” or “Olfa’s Daughter” during the festival’s activities.
Tunisia was chosen as the guest of honor for this year’s festival. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Culture Nevin El-Kilani, Minister of Solidarity Nevin El-Kabbaj, and stars such as Ghada Adel, Rania Youssef, Nahed El-Sebaei, Reem El-Baroudi, Sabry Fawaz, Ahmed Fathi, Ahmed Magdy, director Hala Khalil, and others.
The festival takes place from April 20 to 25, and it honors star Ghada Adel, Finnish star Alma Puesti, director Hala Khalil, Dr. Mona El-Sabban, and Tunisian editor Kahena Attia. In celebration of Tunisian cinema as a guest of honor, “Daughters of Olfa” was shown at the opening of the eighth session and participated in the feature film competition.
The film was previously screened in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Oscar. It stars Hend Sabry and is directed by Kaouther Ben Haniyeh.
This year, the festival also celebrates Palestinian cinema and showcases six films that express the reality of Palestinian women. These films are “I am from Palestine,” directed by Iman Zawahiri; “If They Take Him,” directed by Layali Kilani; “A Cut Future,” directed by Alia Arsghali; “Sard,” directed by Zeina Ramadan; “Silk Threads,” directed by the martyr Walaa Saada; and “An Attempt to Survive,” directed by Bashar Al-Balbisi.
