The Egyptian Press Awards ceremony took place recently, recognizing outstanding journalism across various categories. The event, hosted by the Journalists Syndicate’s Board of Trustees, celebrates the vital role journalists play in informing the public.
During the ceremony, Ahram Weekly journalists secured two awards this year. Alyaa Abo Shahba’s investigative report on threats to migratory birds earned her the Mohamed Salmawy Award for Journalism in Foreign Languages. Sarah Al-Hosary’s piece on the unique attire of Egyptian Orthodox Church clergy garnered her the same recognition.
On the other hand, Azza Fouad and Amal Al-Sharif’s collaborative series on Egyptian women in space were awarded in the Investigative Journalism category. Dina Darwish’s impactful work, “Informer… au Prix de Mourir,” also impressed the judges, securing her the Mohamed Salmawy Award for Journalism in Foreign Languages. Habebba Gamal’s investigative piece, “Deal with the Devil,” earned her the top prize in Investigative Journalism.
Regarding the Cultural Journalism Award, the judging committee has decided to award the prize for the year 2022 to Esraa Al-Nimr from Al-Thaqafah Al-Jadidah magazine. The prize for the year 2023 has been awarded to Sara Ahmed from Al-Akhbar newspaper.
Regarding Women’s Journalism Award, the committee has decided to jointly award the prize for the year 2022 to Amal Al-Sharif, Wafaa Farag from Nisf Al-Dunia magazine, and Aya Ashraf from Al-Watan newspaper. The prize for the year 2023 has been jointly awarded to Faten Sabhi from Al-Mansha website and Iman Hanna from Youm7 website.
In multimedia journalism, the committee has decided to award the prize for the year 2022 to Asmaa Zakaria, Ayat Al-Habbal, and Mahmoud Al-Khawas from Al-Masry Al-Youm website. The prize for the year 2023 has been jointly awarded to Nihal Abdelnabi and Hossam Atef from Youm7 website, and Mohamed Hisham Mustafa from Al-Dostour website.
As for Environmental Journalism Award, the prize for the year 2023 has been jointly awarded to Wessam Hamdi from Al-Karama newspaper and Hend Said from Middle East News Agency.
