Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Ain Shams University and the University of Exeter. This agreement will establish a pioneering Exeter campus in Egypt, the first of its kind in Africa for UK-based Russell Group of universities. The event brought together Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, UK Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley, Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities, and Mark Howard, Director of the British Council in Egypt.
The MOU was signed by Dr. Mohamed Diaa Zain El Abidin, President of Ain Shams University, Dr. Essam El-Kordi, Executive Director of the Universities Support and Development Authority, and Dr. Lisa Roberts, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter.
On his part, Dr. Madbouly emphasized that this partnership is a significant component of Egypt’s broader vision to elevate its educational and research capabilities by partnering with globally renowned institutions. He highlighted the importance of expanding access to world-class education and providing Egyptian students with the skills to compete in both local and international job markets.
The collaboration between Exeter and Ain Shams aims to establish a state-of-the-art campus within the international university campus of Ain Shams University, representing a major milestone in academic cooperation between Egypt and the UK. As the first Russell Group university to form such a partnership in Africa, this move will provide Egyptian students with access to exceptional educational opportunities.
