Egypt has communicated its concerns to Israel regarding the Israeli Air Force’s airstrikes near the Salah al-Din Corridor, which violates a bilateral agreement requiring prior permission from the other party before conducting military actions in the region. The Israeli newspaper , Yedioth Ahronoth, reported that Israeli security services are worried about Hamas using tunnels under the Salah al-Din Corridor to flee to the Sinai Peninsula, prompting the bombings.
Ahmed Refaat, an Egyptian researcher in national security affairs, provided his perspective on the escalating tensions between Egypt and Israel in the aftermath of bombings in the Salah al-Din Corridor (also known as the Philadelphi Corridor) that separates the Gaza Strip and Egypt. “The Israeli enemy is persistently escalating the situation, aiming to create maximum confusion. However, Egypt has established clear boundaries to make the enemy understand what is possible and what is impossible.”, Refaat, speaking to RT, commented.
On the other hand, Lior Ben Ari, a political analyst for a Hebrew newspaper, confirmed the reports of escalating disputes between Israel and Egypt concerning operations along the axis in the southern Gaza Strip. The Israeli army claimed that it targeted Hamas’ infrastructure in the region. Egypt expressed surprise at the lack of coordination in these actions.
Refaat emphasized Egypt’s limits, stating, “Egypt, known for its strategic patience in its policies, issues warnings initially. With repeated transgressions, there will be calculated escalations, and the party at fault will have no one to blame but itself. National security matters do not tolerate jokes, nor do they allow for tolerance or complacency.”
The Egyptian researcher highlighted that these operations are inappropriate for Egypt, as well as for the circumstances at hand, questioning which Hamas leaders would seek refuge in Egypt and whether one senior leader was arrested to enable the escape of others. Refaat criticized the continuous failures of occupation operations and accused Netanyahu of causing harm to innocent children, women, the elderly, and defenseless individuals.
Refaat warned that instead of harassing a large and powerful country like Egypt, Netanyahu should seek a way out of his great disappointment, the trials that await him, the tragic end, and the oblivion of history.
