The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have appointed Representative Sahar Al-Bazaar, the First Undersecretary of the Foreign Relations Committee in the House of Representatives, to lead the first council of women parliamentarians in the history of these organizations since their establishment in 1944.
Representative Al-Bazzar has formed a truly global Executive Council, which includes representatives from diverse nations such as Canada, Tonga, India, Senegal, Kenya, Greece, and Uruguay. The Vice President of the State represents Uruguay, further highlighting the international nature of this council.
In this leadership role, Al-Bazzar, who represents Egypt, aims to promote women’s economic empowerment, increase their participation in economic growth at the national and international levels, and enhance policies for women’s social and financial security.
This appointment highlights the pivotal role of Egyptian women in leadership and reflects the Egyptian government’s efforts to empower women during President Sisi’s tenure. The representation of women in the Egyptian Parliament has reached 27%, confirming women’s influential role in the country’s political and economic life.
