Due to the savage attacks on Gaza, Puma has decided to stop sponsoring Israel’s national football team, according to a German group quoted by the Financial Times on Tuesday.
In a related context, Pro-Palestinian protests outside of Puma and Zara stores around the world have occurred in recent weeks in response to the brands’ support of Israel.
According to a Puma report obtained by the FT, the decision was made a year ago and was unrelated to the calls for a boycott made in response to Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
The decision was made as part of a larger “fewer-bigger-better” strategy, according to FT, which aims to make the company more selective in its sports marketing.
The note states that as of 2024, the group will no longer supply the team’s uniforms due to their decision to not extend their contract with the Israel Football Association (IFA).
Additionally, Puma is soon to announce a new collaboration with a well-known team.
